To stop airlines from canceling flights at the last minute, Europe introduced a set of clear air passenger rights known as EC 261. The section on flight cancellation states that if an airline like Luxair cancels the flight within 14 days of the flight cancellation. If departure is scheduled, compensation of up to $700 must be paid to each affected passenger.

As the law focuses on avoiding disruption to passengers, there is no Luxair flight cancellation compensation if you are offered an alternative flight that arrives at approximately the same time as the original flight.
