The Supreme Court’s strong words and a blanket ban on firecrackers were not enough to stop the national capital of Delhi from having “poor” air quality on Monday morning. Delhi’s average air quality index (AQI) is predicted to progressively move into the “very poor” category later in the day due to a spike in PM 2.5 concentration that occurred between midnight and two in the morning, reaching about 30 times the allowable hourly standards for the ultrafine particle.
